Rubber flooring
What the surfaces look like
Rubber and turf in commercial rooms — different thicknesses, colour levels and surfaces, photographed in facilities rather than on a sample board.

Thickness, formats & colour
The two questions that decide a flooring quote are how thick the rubber needs to be and what the turf has to survive. Here is how we size both.
Rubber flooring — thickness by zone
Thickness is specified by what happens on that part of the floor, not by the room as a whole. Most rooms use two thicknesses, not one.
Also available in 3/4" (18 mm) for platforms and drop zones.
| Thickness | Metric | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| 1/4" | 6 mm | Cardio areas, walkways, stretching space and machine zones. Protects the slab and quiets footfall. Not for anything that gets dropped. |
| 5/16" | 8 mm | General fitness floors and apartment amenity rooms. The usual answer where selectorized machines and light dumbbells are the heaviest thing in the room. |
| 3/8" | 9 mm | Selectorized strength, functional training and moderate free-weight use. A step up in durability and sound control. |
| 1/2" | 12 mm | Free-weight floors, dumbbell areas and racks. Handles dumbbells being set down hard without telegraphing damage into the slab. |
| 3/4" | 18 mm | Platforms, drop zones and Olympic lifting. This is what goes under a bar that gets dropped from the hip or overhead. |
